To identify the effectiveness of achieving the SLO of the workshop I facilitated entitled "Becoming Your Best You: Strategic Planning in Your Personal and Professional life"
Only four (4) out of nine (9) of the participants in the September workshop "met expectations" or higher on the SLO "Explain why each state is important".
For the Ocotober training, I made sure to stop and review with the participants why that particular stage (of the four stage process) was integral for making the entire process work.
9/13/18: 4/9 (44%) met or exceeded expectations for the SLO "explain why each stage is important"
10/22/18: 3/5 (60%) met or exceeded expectations for the SLO, showing an increase in percentage of participants that successfully met that outcome
It seems that a brief pause in the transition between the four stages, to have the participants analyze why that stage was integral in the process, helped them master that SLO.
Many people struggle balancing the multiple committments and priorities they have in their professional and personal lives. I developed this workshop as a framework to help individuals, no matter their background or goals, consider who they want to be in life (their roles/core values), create a four or six month strategic plan to determine big goals aligned with those roles/core values, and how to make progress towards those goals on a weekly and even daily basis. After running the workshop in September, I noticed that most participants were able to articulate what the four steps were, but not why they were integral to the entire process. Based on those results, I intervened with a reflection aspect in the training as a transition between each stage that encouraged participants to reflect and integrate why that step was important. Results show moderate evidence that this intervention was effective. This will prove useful in offering this training in the future and in developing the wider skills programming based on this theme in the spring semester.
