Abstract

In Spring 2015 SAAC conducted its semester assessment in Technological Literacy, one of seven general education abilities at EMCC. Data was collected from 11 sections with 234 students in 2015, compared to 237 in 2012. 6 instructors implemented this assessment in 2015, as compared to 11 in 2012. The areas assessed in Technological Literacy were Data Management, References, Assignment Content, Communication, Layout, Embedded Objects, and Conventions. To see the breakdown of freshman vs. sophomores, see attached Ppt.

Results showed the strongest areas to be Data Management, Communications, and Layout. The areas for greatest improvement were References and Embedded Objects, which were also the two lowest areas in 2012. Due to the variability of assessments, classes, and student levels (as compared to 2012), it is not reliable to draw inferences from the data from a comparative standpoint. Additionally, one instructor was responsible for more than 50% of the students assessed. Information was presented at a Leadership Council in November, and a Classsroom Conversation in December, and notes were taken to improve the process in the future (see attachment).
