Need to evaluate and improve student information literacy abilities.
In Spring 2019 librarians wanted to get a benchmark of student information literacy abilities in order to make needed improvements in instruction.
In Spring 2019 librarians wanted to capture a benchmark of student information literacy abilities, specifically: 1) understand library services and navigate the EMCC Library website, 2) identify components of online citations, 3) find, retrieve, and use information from full-text article and ebook databases. To capture this information, librarians created a quiz and made it available on Canvas. Librarians also analyzed works cited pages from ENG101 and ENG102.
After grading 511 quizzes and evaluating the works cited pages of 162 papers we found that 15% of students were not proficient in ability 1, 12% of students were not proficient in ability 2, and 27% of students were not proficient in ability 3. Please see attachement, Library Program Assessment, for more detailed information and number of students participating in assessment.

Hi Nikol,
Thank you for submitting a CATS! I appreciate your ongoing efforts to reach our EMCC students with library resources. Personally, I have always liked partnering with the EMCC Library for my course assignments. The EMCC Library is incredible at providing research material and tools to help our students improve their learning outcomes in other courses. Your instructional videos are easy to follow, and the reference information you provide our students is excellent.
Thank you for all the hardwork you and your colleagues do for us! I look forward to reading your results after Fall 2021.
Have a great day,
Catherine
