What is the Purpose of the Assessment?
  • The purpose of this assessment is to see if overall scores will increase if students are forced to argue a position they do not agree with.
  • Develop opportunities for working with teams in a collaborative way.
Describe the necessity for this assessment
  • Through observation, students were not taking enough time discussing counter arguments with their team members.  Perhaps having students argue a position they do not agree with, this will improve their overall scores on this assignment.
Describe how the practice will be implemented

During the Spring 2026 semester, I am going to have one ENG 101 class choose the position they want to argue and the second ENG 101 class will be forced to argue the position they do not agree with.  I want to see what the variation in overall scores will be.  The sample size of this first go around will only be 2 classes.

Interpret, compare, and describe the results

I will compare the results of both of these classes to see what the difference in overall scores will be.

After analyzing, and reflecting on the outcome, what are the next steps?

After analyzing the results, I will then expand this assessment to 4 classes to get a better sample size.
