Title: “Starting Small, Dreaming Big”: A STEM Advisement Presentation for Pre-Professional Students created by Bryan Hernandez Assessment by Deeda Webster
Abstract
College students with disabilities can experience anxiety and discomfort when communicating with instructors about their approved accommodations. This may be due to fears of stigma and negative reactions, communication challenges, or a sense of burdening faculty. These student concerns can lead to underutilization of accommodations, despite their potential to enhance academic success.
EMCC Testing Services wants to increase the number of students who are able to successfully utilize their study path within EdReady to test out of CRE 101. Testing Services staff will keep data on students who inquire about EdReady testing, check their scores, and reach out to those who haven’t increased their scores on the Critical Reading & Critical Thinking test.
FA and Outreach have fully implemented this new process and will continue exploring additional opportunities to make it even more seamless for students and for the staff who process Concurrent Maricopa Grants.
Grad‑App‑Alooza (Transfer and Job Fair) is an annual event organized by Estrella Mountain Community College’s (EMCC) Career and Transfer Center (CTC), in coordination with Workforce and Experiential Learning (CWEL). The event is designed to support students as they transition to the next phase of their academic or professional journey by connecting them with representatives from over 50 universities, employers, and campus departments.
The transfer experience at Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) remains a strategic priority, with 46% of 2023–2024 students indicating an intent to transfer (EMCC 2020–2024 Impact Report, p. 5). This underscores the need for continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation that strengthen the transfer pathway. EMCC also participates in the Ruffalo Noel-Levitz (RNL) Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) every three years. The SSI measures both importance and satisfaction, highlighting areas where high importance and low satisfaction signal a need for improvement.
As part of Strategic Plan Activity 3.1.B to transform the future of work through improved operational models, the MCCCD Shared Governance Group on Student Access, Success, and Experiences launched the Optimizing Student Services (OSS) Project to identify areas for districtwide optimization. Guided by recommendations from the MCCCD VPSA Council, the first phase focused on transcript evaluation and processing.
