Student Life (Herschel Jackson) created the Summer Success Institute (SSI) and collaborated with Student Success Programs/NSO (Daniel Meador & MElinda Sanchez) to provide intense workshops to prepare first semester students for Fall 2016. The SSI provided first year students with a jumpstart to their college success through the energizing and dynamic experiences. Students learned how to navigate successfully the college environment. The institute consisted of four 3- hour workshops during the month of July. The Summer Success Institute was promoted during the New Student Orientation. Forty-nine students completed the program and given certificates of completion. Post follow up occured throughout the Fall 2016 semester. Of the forty-nine students that participated, 47 persisted to the Spring 2017 semester. Attached, you will find more data and materials from SSI. Organizers of this workhsop plan to make the following changes for Summer 2017: Change name of the program as well as provide scholarship money for up to 30 students who complete the program successfully.

What a great idea and program to get students important information early on in their educational process as well as making great connections with other students and EMCC staff.
Me! It is exciting to see you get involved with assessment on campus! Your engagement and leadership are a testament to the type of student you were here, and now a valuable employee and co-worker! Great job on the CATS--your data collection is superb! Ro
This is great! Many of our first semester students need to feel invested into the college life to be successful in college. This is great for our first generation students. This helps these students transition into college, and it creates a "smaller" campus for them to navigate.
I am so happy to see you submit a CATS. Thank you! I look forward to seeing your results.
Me how exciting to see you submitting a CATS and sharing your summer success institute. I look forward to seeing Round 2 :-)
