College Success Week, held during the fall, is designed to expose students to the many resources available to help them complete their educational goals. EMCC students* indicate they are either unaware or do not take advantage until it’s too late to maximize them as a resource. In an effort to expose students early, one of the activities offered during CSW was the College Success Pyramid Game. The game was designed to increase awareness of resources in a fun, engaging and meaningful way. It was structured similar to the $100,000 Pyramid Game. Teams of two were able to select from seven different categories that had words associated with various departments on campus. One team member gave clues while the other guessed. The “studio audience” (aka students) listened in and guessed on their own. The game also consisted of 2 minute “commercial breaks” which included highlights from different Student Services departments on campus. The game was held in the Image Zone, which captured the attention of those passing by. Both faculty and staff participated. Survey results indicated it was informative and fun, and provided feedback to use in the future.

It was a great idea, Kristina! I think students really enjoyed the activity, but in the future we need to look into ways to get more students involved throughout the activity. I know it was a very warm day so we tried to hurry things along. Great, CATS!
Kristina, This is such a fun way to learn! I like the idea of the commercial breaks to highlight resources on campus. This is also an excellent example of assessments being done for campus events. Thank you for sharing.
What a fun idea- I love the thought of the commerical breaks being used to provide additional information. Maybe this could be done in Estrella Hall or just outside under the cover to help with the heat!
I am so happy to see SA participating actively in assessments. This a wonderful idea to engage students while gathering data. I agree with Kelly, if heat was a challenge then maybe Estrella Hall or under a roof would be beneficial.

Thanks for sharing this with us. How did Fall 17's activities compare to previous semesters? Does your staff feel that having this activity benefited students more by having fun while learning about campus resources? I really wanted to participate in the game, but I was in class. I am glad students had fun, even though it was hot outside.
