Students will have more autonomy in choosing a specific area or topic of the Child Development course to include problems encountered during childhood, development changes, stressors, health/diseases, challenges in society, and other child related encounters. This will create critical thinking and engagement in learning about child development issues.
Through observation of student projects, students are less engaged in topics when given a list of choices. Those students who create their own topic seem to be more engaged, gather better information, and have better presentations. To create deeper critical thinking and engagement, students need to choose their own Childhood Topic.
The list of topics will be removed from the assessment which will force students to critically think about their own topic. Students will notify the teacher about their choice of topic.
Progress will be gathered by the outcome of students choice variety on Project. (Coming Fall ‘26)
