Screening and Assessment in Early Childhood Education

Abstract

In EED 280 - Standards, Observation, and Assessment of Typical/Atypical Behaviors of Young Children Birth to Age Eight, in Module 5 of the course, students create and present a 5-8 slide PowerPoint presentation based on their analysis of the Module's readings which include articles and other texts. Within the PowerPoints, students will including the following: Title Slide, Definition of screening and assessment, Purposes of screening and assessment, Types of screening and assessment instruments, Developmental domains and their descriptions, Appropriate assessments for each domain, Teacher responsibilities and referral processes, and Reference Slide. The presentation of the PowerPoint will be through vitural methods via Adobe Connect in a scheduled Module Adobe Connect Session. Prior to the creation and presentation of the PowerPoint on screening and assessment, the students will engage in weekly discussion questions, an article research activity, and a read, review, reflect, and respond assignment all on the topic of screening and assessment in early childhood education. The PowerPoint is a culmination activity of the students' new learning.

I do several assignments in each class similar to this, Lisa, and I look forward to your results. I am curious, though, what will you be measuring (e.g. content vs. communication skills) and how ill you measure it?
