Abstract
The "I Am Human" Campaign focuses on choosing language that creates an inclusive culture demonstrating social awareness. Students watched the "I Am Human" video in addition to reading about the campaign on the EMCC website. Students participated in a pre/post survey and discussion board directly connected to the campaign. Their weekly video reflection and final journal entry are typical assignments in the Sociology courses. The students mentioned the campaign in both assignments as examples of what impacted them in the course. Please see the attached document on the results. Based on the results, I have closed the loop on this assessment.

Sounds very interesting! I am using the video to start off my Cultural Diversity in Education classes! Can you please attach the survey to this CATS?
This CATS would work perfectly with my COM 110 and COM100 classes with the language and communication chapter and intercultural communication with an online or F2F class.Thank you for this submittal!
Saw the survey . . . look forward to your pre-post results!
Since I have my COM students read the I am Human website, watch he video, and engage in online discussion, I would be interested in seeing the results of your surveys! Anecdotally, I observed tremenous growth in my students' awareness of hurtful language and its personal consequences. Thank you again for guiding the students through this successful campaign!
You did close the loop, Olga! I am sure this whole process has been very instructive to you, and to others. That's the essence of CATS!
Olga, I have now used the I Am Human Campaign project for two semesters in my face-to-face and online courses. Students read about the project, watched the video, and then engaged in an online Discussion Board regarding their awareness and commitment to act. We have also had in-class discussions. Most of my students were very unaware of language that is considered derogratory--and they are now more aware. This semester I have a student who was inspired to use this issue for her SCGR research and informative speech! Thank you and Michael for guiding EMCC students through this project. And congratulations again on your presentation at Innovations, and winning EMCC's Innovation of the Year!
Ro,
Thanks for participating in the project and for the feedback!
Smiles
Olga
