Participants registered and attended the face-to-face workshop that was presented using Canvas. Individuals registered for the course using a provided link. Participants completed a pre-assessment to measure their understanding of utilizing Canvas outside of the classroom according to the learning objectives. After the pre-assessment the workshop included topics on the purposes of using a LMS (according to eLearning Industry), connecting benefits of a LMS to out-of-class activities, and discussing how EMCC can move forward with these ideas in mind. Participants were required to post their ideas on the discussion board to move forward in the course environment and complete the post-assessment. Individuals who completed all aspects and earned 100% on the post-assessment earned the Canvas Badge.
Eleven of the 12 participants completed the course and earned 100% on the post-assessment, and 10 of those 11 earned the Canvas badge. A full data report has been attached in the files included the learning objectives, assessment, final data reports and ways to improve this workshop in the future.
See the attached CATS document for the expanded abstract.

This was a very helpful workshop. It is a great idea to think about how we can use technology, that is typically used for the classroom, outside the classroom to engage students. It is a familiar venue for them so it would most likely be easier for them to actually use. Thanks!

Thank you, Laura. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the workshop and it provided meaningful results for your office. I look forward to hearing about how some of your ideas turn out.
Jake,
Great way to spread the word about the use of Canvas outside the classroom. Your approach using meaningful pre and post assesments for the workshop certainly does speak to the core value of a learning college. Thank you for sharing your resources.

Thank you, Pattie. I appreciate your kind words. I entirely agree that Canvas directly speaks to the learning college philosophy and it will serve a great tool as we move forward in assessing student programs outside of the classroom.
Jake, We should all be sharing our ideas and projects like this. Great job on not only sharing with colleagues but also doing a pre and post survey to see if it worked! Thanks for allof your work!

Thank you, Olga. I am very excited to be able to share my ideas about utilizing Canvas not only as a classroom learning tool, but also for student programs and initiatives.
Since I love Canvas whether it is inside the classroom or out, I truly enjoyed seeing new possibilities for its use! As a strong advocate of service learning, I found several applications I can possibly implement due to the presentation you created,Jake. As a result and with your assistance, we will be creating a new badge for service learners that hopefully I can share with everyone else who uses service learning as a component of their curriculum. Thanks again--time well spent (as you can see from the pre- and post- results!).

Thank you, Catherine! I am glad that you enjoyed reading about the results. I think it could even apply to counseling in developing career readiness of students and implementing career planning tools to better support student success. Thanks again for the feedback.
Hi Jake,
I enjoyed reading your CATS and it actually spurred an idea for a CATS for me to submit on the open house sessions I have been doing for students interested in the SLPA program and potentially doing some sort of CANVAS course for that in the future.
