What is the Purpose of the Assessment?

The purpose of the assessment is to make sure that students know how to use the study paths within EdReady to test out of CRE 101.  Student Learning Outcome–more students will utilize the study paths within EdReady to successfully test out of CRE 101.

Describe the necessity for this assessment

Many students do not seem to be aware that they can test out of CRE 101 increasing their EdReady Critical Reading and Critical Thinking test score to a 95 or higher.  Thus, they may end up taking a class that they could have skipped.

  • Sample data–In January 2026, Testing Services gave out info to 32 students about EdReady.
    • Only 7 of those students have tested out of CRE 101 so far (21%).
    • 8 additional students have taken the CRCT test and scored a 60 or higher.  We will reach out to those students to encourage them to utilize their EdReady study path to raise their score to a 95.
Describe how the practice will be implemented

Testing staff keeps a log of students who we give EdReady testing information to each month.  We will check in SIS to see which of those students have scored a 95 or higher on the EdReady Critical Reading & Critical Thinking tests.  We will email the students who are close to testing out of CRE 101 (scored a 60 to a 94 on the test) to remind them how to use their study path to improve their EdReady score.  Included in the email will be a link to a “Test your Understanding” Google Survey to find out if the students know how to increase their EdReady score.  See link here:  How to Test out of CRE 101  (Students will be able to see the correct answers after they submit their answers.  We have also included survey feedback after they submit:  Thank you for checking your understanding.  We wish you the best on improving your score through EdReady.  This can help you have one less class you need to take!  If you test out of CRE, please connect with your Academic Advisor to update your degree progress report.)

The following month, we will check the scores for the students we reached out to, in order to find out if they have increased their EdReady Critical Reading & Critical Thinking scores to a 95 or higher.  If they do end up testing out of EdReady, we’ll follow up with an email to the student to remind them to connect with their Academic Advisor to update their Degree Progress Report.

This process is different from the existing process, as currently we don’t check student scores or follow up with any students regarding testing out of CRE 101.
